What is physical therapy?


Physical therapy is a health profession whose primary purpose is the promotion of optimal human health and function through the application of scientific principles to prevent, assess, correct, or alleviate acute or prolonged movement dysfunction.
 
The philosophical principle underlying the formation of this profession is respect for the dignity and worth of all humankind.


What do physical therapists do?

Physical therapists are health professionals who evaluate and treat the dysfunctions of persons who are impaired or disabled as a result of pain, disease, injury, or developmental delay.

Physical Therapy Department
Physical Therapy StudentWCU’s Department of Physical Therapy fosters collaboration and teamwork between you the student and our faculty. Up to 32 students a year enter the Master of Physical Therapy (MPT) Program as a cohort and are challenged by a rigorous curriculum while being supported by their peers and an exceptional faculty.

You'll find that the combination of our collaborative approach, curriculum, service learning opportunities, outstanding facilities, and our locationin a lush valley between the Blue Ridge and Great Smoky mountainsmakes WCU the perfect environment for a physical therapy program.

Once enrolled in the program you'll attend classes and labs in the historic Moore Building, your academic home away from home, which offers views of the surrounding mountains. Outside the classroom you'll have the option of participating in a wide variety of on-campus and fitness and recreation activities.

In addition to program information, valuable resourcesonline resources, housing information, and job listingsare available to prospective and current students and alumni alike.
