Program Description: The Master of Arts in Teaching in Social Sciences is designed to qualify students for the "G" license from the North Carolina State Department of Public Instruction. It allows teachers to participate in advanced study in social sciences and in pedagogy. The program requires 36 semester hours: 12 in pedagogy and 24 in social sciences. In the discipline-related courses, students will take 12 hours of American history and 9 hours from two other disciplines. Students must pass a comprehensive written examination. If students elect to complete a thesis, an oral defense of the thesis is required.

Minimum Admissions Requirements: Same as the Graduate School

Additional Admissions Criteria: Applicants must submit three letters of recommendation and hold or be eligible for the North Carolina "A" license in social sciences.
