Summer Camps for Kids
The Mountain Heritage Center hosts summer camps sponsored in part by the Jackson County Arts Council with the assistance of WCU's Division of Distance and Continuing Education.

All camps take place at the Mountain Heritage Center on the WCU campus. Registration is limited to the first 12 paid participants for each camp. Camp starts at 8:30 a.m. and ends at noon each day.

Eco-Adventures Summer Camp
June 23 - 27, 2008
A natural history camp for children who have just completed the 1st or 2nd grade. The program will allow the children to explore insects, flowers, trees, and other aspects of our mountain environment. Each exploration culminates in art-based activities and the week includes a field trip to a wild area within Jackson County.

Mini-Camp for Middle Schoolers
July 9 - 11, 2008
A cultural camp for middle school youth who have just completed 5th, 6th, and 7th grades.  Mini-Camp for Middle Schoolers is a cultural camp for middle school youth.  The program has a cultural history theme and will explore the history of the Cherokee and the early settlers to the region.  This camp will include a field trip to a local historic site and participants will be involved in creating their own exhibits on mountain history.

Mountain Mysteries
July 14 - 18, 2008
A cultural history camp for children who have just completed the 3rd or 4th grade. The program explores the heritage of southern Appalachia beginning with the Native Americans and continuing through the pioneer experience. The children work on historic crafts, listen to a traditional musician, take a field trip to see local sites of interest, investigate artifacts, and generally have a lot of fun learning about the people who lived in this area 100 to 1000 years ago.
