The Anthropology Minor is open to all students and requires 21 hours including:
Anth 250 Archaeology and Bioanthropology - The study of human prehistory and evolutionary biology
Anth 260 Cultural and Social Anthropology - The study of human societies
What majors does this minor complement?
Western’s Minor in Anthropology can complement any major. As a social science, majors in any field will benefit from the coursework and experience this minor offers. It is a particularly good fit for majors in Sociology, History or Social Sciences.
What are the professors in this program like?
The anthropology professors are active in their field with many years experience in teaching and research. Their interests range from the folklore of the Blue Ridge Mountains area to the archaeology of western North Carolina.
What are the students in the program doing?
Anthropology students gain firsthand experience of what the field can offer. In the classroom they gain an understanding
of what the “holistic” approach of anthropology is about.
The anthropology club is open to all anthropology students. In addition to social activities the club participates in service to the local community.
