How many hours and what courses does this minor require?

The Minor in Emergency Management requires EMGT 250 and 15 additional hours of EMGT electives approved by the department head. These courses are determined in consultation with the student in order to best fit the student’s individual interests and academic program.

What majors does this minor complement?
The minor in Emergency and Disaster Management is an excellent complement for students majoring in Criminal Justice or Emergency Medical Care. It is also relevant for anyone interested in learning how to prepare to response to emergencies, natural disasters, or terrorist activities that might impact our communities.

What are the students in the program doing?
Our graduates find employment with the Department of Homeland Security, the Federal Emergency Management Agency, the Department of Health & Human Services, various state, county, and local governments; as well as not-for-profit and commercial hazard mitigation organizations. We also have a number of former students pursing advanced education in the areas of homeland security and emergency management.

What are the professors in this program like?
In addition to holding terminal degrees, our faculty also bring extensive professional experience into the classroom. Faculty members of the department are strongly committed to life-long learning and professional development of our students and to facilitating their transition into the professional milieu.
