How to Search a Database

  • Once you have selected a database, enter keywords that you wish to search for into the search box and click on Search.
  • If possible, use the “Advanced” search option and use the limiters (select peer-review journals, dates, periodicals etc.).
  • A list of titles will appear. If you get no results, make sure your words are spelled correctly, or try alternative words or phrases.
  • Full text articles in either HTML or PDF formats can be viewed online. All full text articles can be printed, e-mailed, or saved to a disk. In the database you are using look for links called e-mail, print or save. From most databases, you can also save the article citation to RefWorks.
  • If the full text article is not available in that database you will see webbridge icon. Click to see if the article is available in a different database or in another format (paper, microfilm, etc…).
  • If you are not able to find the full text of the article, then you can request it though interlibrary loan.
