Want to combine your passion for chemistry and physics with an interest in teaching young people?
Visit the Secondary Science Education Program website and find out how.
As a member of the department, you’ll gain excellent scientific training and research experience that will lead to gainful employment or graduate education in each of the five programs offered. Find out which one fits your skills and interests by browsing the majors and minors below.
If teaching is your goal, we also offer a degree in secondary science education (B.S.ED.) in both chemistry and physics.
Chemistry: The chemistry program offers you a standard degree and concentrations with individual appeal—biotechnology, environmental chemistry, industrial chemistry, and premedical/preveterinary/predental/preoptometry. You also can pursue a science education B.S.Ed. with a concentration in chemistry and, at the graduate level, a Master of Science (M.S.) with a concentration in environmental chemistry.
Physics: The physics minor can strengthen your degree—engineering, for example—as you apply the science you learn to technological questions. You can also pursue a science education B.S.Ed. with a concentration in physics.
Forensic Science: The forensic science program will teach you to determine facts of legal significance.
Environmental Sciences: The in-depth science education you’ll receive from this interdisciplinary major is crucial for future employment.
Science and Entrepreneurship (SAE): This unique graduate-level program supports your goals of pursuing technical innovation and business development.
