Reading Education Program
Interested in K-12 reading education? You can earn an initial add-on reading license through undergraduate coursework and advanced studies and licensure through the graduate M.A.Ed. program with a concentration in reading.

Reading License
 
The following courses are required for the initial level add-on reading license:

EDRD 334 "Teaching Reading in the Elementary School"
EDRD 443 "Teaching Reading in the Middle School"
EDRD 453 "Teaching Reading for High School and Adults"
EDRD 474 "Reading Practicum"
EDRD 303 "Children's Literature"
EDRD 467 "Adolescent Literature"
ELMG 415 "Communication Skills"
1 elective in reading - MUST be approved by program director

All of these courses are only taught in Cullowhee since they are undergraduate courses. Besides our daytime courses, most of the courses are offered at night within a four-semester rotation. We occasionally accept previously taken courses in these areas IF they were taken within the last six years and meet the same expectations as Western courses.
