5/19/2008 - Western Carolina University will present “Grant Writing: Targeting Funds Using the Internet” from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday, May 28, in Room 137 of the Cordelia Camp Building.
A separate companion course, “Grant Writing: Beyond the Basics” will be offered 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., May 29-30 in Room 143 of the Cordelia Camp Building.
Jack Smith, a nationally recognized grant writer and consultant to 150 different organizations, will lead both workshops. Smith serves as an adjunct instructor at the University of Southern Maine, the University of Georgia, Emory University, Duke University and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Management Institute.
During the “Targeting Funds Using the Internet,” workshop participants will gain research skills to target grant funds, increase ability to search effectively online, explore cutting edge grant technology, and identify the patterns of foundations, corporations and private trusts.
Internet literacy is required for this hands-on workshop. Participants will be able to research their own grant interests during the class.
Pre-registration for “Targeting Funds Using the Internet” is required. Registration fee, including lunch, is $149. Group discounts are available.
“Beyond the Basics” is an intensive course designed for those agencies and individuals that have some grant writing experience, or individuals who wish to develop a systematic approach to grant writing.
Participants will examine the relationship between organizational missions and grant funding, needs assessments, goals, objectives, work plans and evaluations, and will learn writing techniques to help make the grant writing process smarter and faster.
Participants also will develop a template that can be used for multiple grant requests.
Those attending should bring one laptop computer per organization. Limited laptops are available for loan during the workshop and must be reserved in advance.
Pre-registration for “Beyond the Basics” is required by May 23. Registration fee, including lunch, is $209 per person. Groups may participate at a reduced rate.
