Biography:
I have been at Western for quite a few years, and I have stayed because it has been the kind of place you want to spend your time.
I received my bachelor's degree from Florida Southern College in Lakeland, Florida and did my graduate work at Auburn University. My interests vary from Voice and Organic Disorders to Adult Neurogenic Communication Disorders to Accent Reduction and related issues.
My husband and I are empty nesters now with an extended four-legged family of cats and dogs that fill our empty corners and our hearts.
My daughter, Ashley, is grown now, teaches high school English, and is married to a man I consider to be a pretty good son-in-law. Last fall she presented us with a wonderful grandson, who is now walking and talking to the delight of my speech therapist's heart.
I love music and have played both the piano and guitar, but my favorite way to enjoy music is to sing. I love theater, movies, needlework, and football. I am an avid Auburn fan (War Eagle!). My husband and I also back the Cats.
Not long ago I served as president of the North Carolina Speech, Hearing and Language Association (NCSHLA). It was great fun representing Western and North Carolina. I got to travel a bit, meet the presidents of other state associations, work with a great team of professionals, and learn a lot about legislative issues and how each of us can make a difference if we take the time. I am well aware of how multicultural issues are permeating our practices all over the nation and am interested in helping professionals improve their comfort zones with individuals with these issues.
Western is a great place to be.
